SEPTIC TOMB
When the powers of Noktorn and Alarick combine, the shit encrusted grinddeath entity known as Septic Tomb comes to life. Representing the most putrid corner of the metal universe, Septic Tomb and its biological mother, Nocturnal Transmissions Records, are crawling their way past every hurdle with the release of Septic Tomb’s ‘Sewearth’ EP along with the demos of a few others. Septic Tomb and Nocturnal Transmissions Records are entities that represent the underground of the underground known to a few hundred kindred souls at the most. Not surprisingly the music beneath their shadow is vile, raw, and commercially unpalatable, forever lost in the subgenre swamp and occasionally bubbling up to catch our attention. For Mr. Noktorn, who’s both the businessman and purveyor of the label, that’s exactly the way he likes it.

LEIDR SKALD
It means ‘The Hateful Poet,’ and for the towering young man who comprises the project (can’t call it a ‘band’ now, can we?) there are so many things around him worth hating. His music, being an extension of the Norse-worshipping soul residing inside him, is slick and mournful Black Metal made with programmed drums and melodies wrapped in fog. Still in the process of building an online reputation and pulled by separate creative urges, it would be awhile before anyone truly gets to hear Jonathan Bailey’s talent. At least he made himself available to Filipinometal. Shooting the shit, here’s Leidr Skald on your favorite Black Metal themes: Scandinavian mythology, being tr00, and loathing Christianity.

SLEDGEHAMMER AUTOPSY
Believing Slipknot ‘is like putting a dick into your ear,’ these strong words from the two mates in Sledgehammer Autopsy suggest that they aren’t going to compromise their musical stance any time soon. Just take the sound on their latest demo, “Mortician’s Apprentice,” and the gore-obsessed lyrics they spew. Producing the kind of guttural death metal that’s usually buried in the recesses of Myspace and Lastfm, Sledgehammer Autopsy are your quintessential purveyors of brutal shit. Winning a Grammy or getting signed to a label aren’t their goals, so you’d better catch them at their best on this interview before they submerge once more into the swampy wastes of the metal under-underground. Doing the talking: Vocalist Andrew and his trusty partner in crime, Matt.

HAILNDKILL’S 10: SIZZLING PUSSYCAT DOLLS VIDEOS
HailndKill’s 10 is a new series where he lists his ten favorites regarding any topic, whether it be music, food, or movies. For this installment, HailndKill guides his shallow readers across his favorite girl band’s videography. With the release of their new album, the metallically titled ‘Doll Domination,’ this September 23—a sophomore effort guaranteed to be chock full of booty shaking tunes and Timbaland cameos—it’s only fitting he remind everyone here how far these G-rated burlesque divas have gone. But despite their impressive number of hit singles, the Dolls still don’t rack up ten videos, so HailndKill will be expanding the list’s scope and include one’s that featured certain members, which he still loves because the Dolls are a shining ray of light in his otherwise bleak existence. Anyway, here’s the damn list:

HAILNDKILL DOES THE MOVIES! (HELLBOY 2)
Ever conscious of his readers’ many needs, HailndKill has now decided to spread his wings further and waste everyone’s time by providing heavy-handed spoilers of the latest flicks hitting the big screen. If you end up sorely disappointed after reading his shit (calling it by any other name is an insult), don’t ever complain you weren’t warned.

OREMUZ
As ambassadors of our local scene’s Gothic chapter, Oremuz is a glittering example of how both guys and chicks can work together to create great music. Okay, that might not have been very endearing but how else do you acknowledge seven people--not just four or five-- in one band? Mixing crystal clear female vocals to layer heaviness and atmosphere, Oremuz’s sound may not be original, but it’s certainly refreshing. With the release of the darkly ambient epic ‘Melody of Sanctimony’ behind them and a full album a long way off, the band is currently doing what everyone else is: Balancing life, work, stress, and musical aspirations. Going about this interview the same way those Swedish dudes (Sanctrum) did weeks ago, the band ‘collectively’ answers HailndKill’s probing questions.

ENTHROPE
Finland won’t be running out of interesting metal bands soon, just take Enthrope, who recently put out their second EP, the promising ‘Silenced Earth.’ Still wandering in the purgatory of unsigned bands, Enthrope’s future might be hazy, but this didn’t stop them from agreeing to a Filipinometal interview. Candidly discussing every topic of interest concerned with Finland in general and Finnish metal in particular, drummer Mikko proves that his people are all smiles and hospitality. Until you mess with them and pukko knives are drawn . . .

LOUDRAGE
By some line of twisted reasoning, Romania’s Loudrage may be the world’s most original band. Not only do they have a name synonymous with cacophonous anger and lyrical themes centered on prostitutes, but a groovy Death Metal sound whose foundations are hooks and catchiness. Without a doubt a great bunch of guys to watch porn with, dirty-minded frontman Molester gives us the goods on their ambitious new EP, ‘Rage Unleashed.’

MEPHISTOPHELES
The vast majority of mankind may not know it, but immense things are brewing in the Indian subcontinent. Whether its multibillionaire Lakshmi Mittal’s successful bid to dominate the world steel market last year or the recent agreement by the group of 45 countries allowing US-Indian trade in (peaceful) nuclear technology, or even a contract with Russia for 1000 state-of-the-art T90 main battle tanks, India’s profile in the global stage is rising like an erection. Now if that sounded awkward, then sorry, HailndKill isn’t good with words. Anyway, if Metal were an adequate measuring stick for any single country’s advancement and acceptance in the international community, then this qualifies said country to join the global Metal movement. If the logic in that reasoning escaped you, all HailndKill is trying to say is no matter where you come from, as long as you’re Metal, you’re cool. Still confused? Fuck it. In light of such telling developments --India becoming a regional power and such-- it’s only fitting that Filipinometal proudly features the first Indian band to grace its darkened confines. Digging the same influences we do and belonging to the same peer group, here’s Andhra Pradesh’s metallic finest, Mephistopheles.

TRIBUZY
Let’s put it this way: if Germany has Udo Dirkschneider, the US Dio, and Sweden Jorn Lande, then Brazil’s current Metal singer-at-large is Renato Tribuzy. Venturing into a solo career several years ago, his first album ‘Execution’ featured extensive guest appearances from Iron Maiden and Primal Fear, plus the guitar work of the preeminent producer for Metal’s biggest names, Roy Z (Rob Rock, Bruce Dickinson, Halford). As if having them on record weren’t enough, he got all his friends onstage for the ‘Execution: Live Reunion’ DVD. A consummate performer and all-around vocal god, Tribuzy started singing for bands since hitting adolescence and has never slackened the pace of his career since then. Having recently recovered from injuries sustained in an unfortunate accident (one that almost jeopardized this interview), Tribuzy finally gets to share a thought or two on what he loves most.

BENEDICTUM: HOTTER THAN FA-YAH
If that title was a tad sensational then so be it because Benedictum deserves all the props they can get. Playing honest to goodness Heavy Metal consisting of what we love about the old (say Dio, Sabbath, Queensryche) but given a fresh spin (think Rob Rock, Primal Fear, Symphony X), a quality best heard on their wonderful debut, ‘Uncreation,’ and its whopping follow up, this year’s ‘Seasons of Tragedy’ (‘Steel Rain’ effin’ owns!), Benedictum are an aural kick in the pants. If you like smokin’ hot chicks, brain-melting solos, tons of melody and ass-kicking choruses, then Benedictum is the band to keep your Metal hunger fed. Their sound is specially crafted for those whose souls still belong to the 80’s and intend to remain there music-wise. Fresh from the Magic Circle Festival in Europe and a bunch of shows, here’s Metal's reigning first lady, singer Veronica Freeman, otherwise knows as ‘The V.’

SHEPHERDS THE WEAK
The five displaced souls who make up Shepherds The Weak, a Hong Kong-based Filipino metal band, recently undertook their sophomore tour here. Belonging to the beefier side of metal short on complexity but heavy on the, well, heaviness, Shepherds The Weak are cast from the same mold as our very own Bad Burn, Valley of Chrome, Piledriver, Sin, and Intolerant, whom they sponsored (and opened for) in Hong Kong a few months ago. Gearing up for the arduous process of recording a first album (their discography so far is a 2005 EP), bassist Glenn Bogador enthusiastically takes part in this exclusive interview, leaving no topic untouched as he reveals everything (well, almost) to HailndKill, including his tender feelings for his band mates.

DEFRAGE
Since everybody in Filipinometal is drooling with excitement over the new Slipknot album, featuring a band custom-made for a ‘broader’ appeal wouldn’t be compromising anyone’s integrity, right? Calling the tiny but prosperous Baltic nation of Estonia home are the five warm bodies who comprise DefRage; they’ve been hard at work since forming last year and are currently paying their dues around the Estonian gig circuit. With an EP finished and the build up to a full-length album upon them, DefRage got in touch with HailndKill for an interview, which was glibly entertained by Sten Oitspuu, the drummer. There’s a good chance, if you ever care to look beyond the circle of music we all feed on, that you’ll be hearing from DefRage soon.

SANCTRUM
You think your band is the only one that plays to three people or less on a good show? Well, if you do you’re a narrow-minded penis because a couple of continents away the dudes in Sanctrum are paying their dues just like you. Coming from the land of In Flames and At the Gates, Sanctrum have recently made that first crucial step for any band, releasing a debut album, thereby graduating to a little more respectability in the metal world. Titled ‘In Harms Way,’ and containing high-energy brutality done by way of Gothenburg Metal, their music is guaranteed to fukken rawk your panties off. Answering collectively so that no specific member gets credit for this interview, HailndKill is glad to introduce Sanctrum in their inebriated best.

NECRODIOS
A recent international news item reported that in a few decades, ‘colored’ people will be outnumbering ‘whites’ in the United States. Considering the diverse ethnic backgrounds of the band Necrodios, this assessment is already a reality in the US’s bigger (yet poorer) neighbor, Canada. Where the remaining white populace have uprooted to the North Pole following an invasion of migrants, Necrodios has taken up the reins of Brutal Death Metal in their part of Tha Hood. When the torturous Canadian winters aren’t tormenting them, the band is putting in the necessary time to push their musical agenda further with a newly released EP while balancing family, work, and laziness. On a closing note, it’s an open secret Necrodios is Jet’s band (he’s Filipinometal’s founder). Here’s 3/4th’s of Necrodios’ multinational crew, they whose gods have been long deceased.
