Tribuzy
LET’S PUT IT THIS WAY: IF GERMANY HAS UDO DIRKSCHNEIDER, THE US DIO, AND SWEDEN JORN LANDE, THEN BRAZIL’S CURRENT METAL SINGER-AT-LARGE IS RENATO TRIBUZY. VENTURING INTO A SOLO CAREER SEVERAL YEARS AGO, HIS FIRST ALBUM ‘EXECUTION’ FEATURED EXTENSIVE GUEST APPEARANCES FROM IRON MAIDEN AND PRIMAL FEAR, PLUS THE GUITAR WORK OF THE PREEMINENT PRODUCER FOR METAL’S BIGGEST NAMES, ROY Z (ROB ROCK, BRUCE DICKINSON, HALFORD). AS IF HAVING THEM ON RECORD WEREN’T ENOUGH, HE GOT ALL HIS FRIENDS ONSTAGE FOR THE ‘EXECUTION: LIVE REUNION’ DVD. A CONSUMMATE PERFORMER AND ALL-AROUND VOCAL GOD, TRIBUZY STARTED SINGING FOR BANDS SINCE HITTING ADOLESCENCE AND HAS NEVER SLACKENED THE PACE OF HIS CAREER SINCE THEN. HAVING RECENTLY RECOVERED FROM INJURIES SUSTAINED IN AN UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT (ONE THAT ALMOST JEOPARDIZED THIS INTERVIEW), TRIBUZY FINALLY GETS TO SHARE A THOUGHT OR TWO ON WHAT HE LOVES MOST.

Hello Mr. Tribuzy. What are the biggest headlines in Brazilian news today?
Tribuzy: Hahahaha! Good question, it's something related to political corruption, almost every day we have sad news like that here in Brazil.

About the first question, I was just trying to be different because as an interviewer I've begun with ‘how are you doing' so many times already. How are you doing by the way?
T: I'm okay. I'm pretty good, thanks for asking!

Isn't the new Tribuzy album due this year? Can you give us an update?
T: I'm working on the pre production now for the next album. I'll start the recording sessions soon, but I really don't know if it will be released this year yet. But I hope so!

Your DVD 'Execution: Live Reunion' has gotten you a lot of attention. I haven't seen it myself, but was it the only show where all the guest performers on your 'Execution' album came together?
T: Yes, we had three concerts with all the guests on the album here in Brazil, two in São Paulo and one in Belo Horizonte. It was just amazing, something I will never forget.

I know you've been asked this so many times already but can you share how you bagged so many big names for your 'Execution' album and its counterpart on DVD?
T: By luck, I guess. I played in Europe with my former band, and when I was there, I met the guys and we became good friends over time. So when I decided to record my solo album I just got in contact with them, and thank God they said 'Yes let's do it!'

(from l to r) Ralf Scheepers, Matt Sinner, Bruce Dickinson doing the horns, and Roy Z

About one of your 'guests', how come so many solo artists want to work with Roy Z? Both of you are on very good terms, what is he like in person and professionally?
T: He is like a brother to me; I used to tell Roy I consider him my older brother. He is always there, helping me, giving support and friendship. The only thing I can tell say him is that he is perfect as a guitar player, amazing as a producer and really honest and clear as friend.

Do you have any idea how many times you've performed live in all the bands you were part in, including Tribuzy?
T: I really don't know. Now that got me! Hahahaha!

Being a full-time musician, do you consider yourself blessed since not that many people, especially so many other musicians, can't do what you're doing?
T: Of course, I've met many great musicians who have given up because they could not go ahead with their music because of various problems. It's surprising to see myself being part of a select team of people who had this great opportunity in life and I'm always trying to help other bands here in Brazil, to see increasingly new talent being displayed to the eyes of the world.

What kind of conversations do you have with Bruce Dickinson when the two of you are just hanging out? And why does Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear singer) have such huge biceps?
T: I don't know, a lot of things, except his job. Hahahaha. . . Actually, I never ask Ralf those kinds of things either.

You've been in music since the age of 12, what were some of the mistakes you made that you've learned from?
T: To never trust people who come into your life, saying that they only want to help you without anything in return.

Was your European tour in the band Thoten the first time you set foot on the continent? What are your best experiences from that tour?
T: Well, that tour was really cool. The best experience I had was for sure the free trip, hahahaha.

Are there any other places in the world you'd like to tour in the future?
Tribuzy: There's really no specific 'place,' I wanna be in the whole world, any time, any place.

How would you describe your musical education? Are you well versed in everything between the stage and the studio?
T: I think so. I just do my job. A good worker needs to know everything about his obligations.

Your first band was an Iron Maiden tribute. How old were you when you became a fan of Iron Maiden?
T: I was 10-years old I guess (laughs), it was before to went to school, I was watching cartoons and when my father changed the channel an Iron Maiden video clip was playing, then ‘Boom!' the Metal came into my life.

Do you remember when Iron Maiden first played a show in Brazil? Because today it seems they do sows there every week.
T: Yes, it was on the first Rock In Rio, but I was too young at that time. The second time they came was on the Fear of the Dark Tour and I was there.

How come you've always been associated with the Progressive/Power metal genre?
Tribuzy: I don't know, I never was into Prog Metal, really, I think it happened because my two first bands were too Prog, but it wasn't my fault, hahahaha. I think the ‘Execution' album cannot be called a Prog Metal masterpiece, right? Hahahahha.

I'm trying to tap into your experience here. What are the things a band should do to ensure their longevity? You know, to keep the members from fighting, having ‘creative differences' or losing their motivation?
T: This is very particular and depends on each band. In my case, I decided not to become part of a band itself anymore so I created my own solo band, and when a musician gives me problems I simply resolve the situation with his resignation, hahaha.

Which artists do you love listening to these days?
T: The same guys from the old days. Namely Bruce (Dickinson), Michael Kiske, Geoff Tate, Dio, Glen Hughes and so on.

Thank you for this interview Mr. Tribuzy, how large is your fan base across Latin America?
T: The thanks should come from me. I hope to see you guys face to face really soon in a concert. Of course, it's always been my goal to enlarge my fan base across Latin America so I just keep it growing with each new release.
